Assessment

SALTIE provides psychological assessment services for children, youth and adults.

Our assessments help understand an individual’s behaviour, mental health, thinking skills, and overall well-being.  Assessments can also assist in understanding couples and family, where relationships and support systems can be considered in detail.

These assessments also provide recommendations and support to improve quality of life.  They can assist in identifying a diagnosis, suggesting effective strategies, and providing evidence for referrals or applications to other services.

Our approach:

1

Referral

You can refer yourself, or a healthcare professional, such as a GP, can refer you to our clinic.

2

Initial Consultation

This 50-minute appointment is designed to understand your concerns, goals, and reasons for seeking an assessment. It also includes exploring other potential diagnoses and related factors. For children and young people, this typically involves discussions with parents or caregivers as well.

3

Assessment Quote

Following the initial consultation, we may recommend specific assessments based on the emerging clinical picture. We will provide you with a quote for these assessments, which may include tests to rule out other possible issues, in line with best practice.

4

Assessment Completion

We adhere to strict protocols for standardised assessments. Information is gathered from you and, with your consent, from others who know you well (such as parents, teachers, or caseworkers). Some assessments may involve interactive tests or questionnaires.

5

Assessment Outcome

After the assessments, we will share our findings with you. This may be in the form of a meeting, a summary document, or a more detailed report, depending on your preference. Our goal is to ensure that the assessments enhance your self-understanding and empower you to advocate for your needs.

Sensory Processing

Our senses shape how we experience the world, influencing how we perceive, interact, and engage in daily activities.

Sensory processing is the way we interpret and respond to information from our environment through sight, sound, touch, taste, smell, and movement.  It plays a crucial role in everyday life and overall wellbeing, and challenges in this area can affect emotions, behaviour, and the ability to meet daily expectations.

Our practitioners adopt a person-centered approach to help you better understand your sensory processing. Together, we build a comprehensive picture of your sensory strengths and challenges, and assess their impact on daily life.

Neurodiversity

At SALTIE, we strongly believe in providing neurodiversity-affirming assessments for Autism and ADHD.

Our diagnostic process acknowledges and respects neurodivergence, ensuring an approach that values your unique experiences.  As a practice, we recognise neurological differences as natural variations, rather than deficits to be treated. Our person-centred approach is designed to foster understanding and support you in achieving an accurate diagnosis.

Our practitioners focus on understanding your perspective and experiences to ensure the process is tailored to your needs. We prioritise exploring your strengths and abilities, helping you understand your neurological differences and providing strategies to support your goals.
