By looking at the data and research on denial we explore its relationship with problem behaviours. We also reflect on the function of denial and how it relates to the individual and broader system. Understanding and responding to the belief systems associated with violence
Implicit theories, or those belief systems that sit beyond conscious awareness, reveal clients underlying causal theories about their violence and harmful behaviours. Violence supportive thinking is not isolated, disconnected and random. Researchers believe it clusters in themes.
Once developed, these implicit theories can be resistant to revision which presents a challenge to treatment and recidivism. We will explore the relevance of belief systems to assessment, case formulation, risk scenarios, and intervention strategies for clients who use violence in all its forms. This training is run as a small group workshop.
