Laura understands that reaching out for help can be daunting. Her therapy is grounded in genuineness, compassion, and wherever possible, humour! Therapy doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom. Fostering an individual’s strengths and celebrating their healthy parts is fundamental to allowing the more vulnerable and ‘stuck’ parts to safely reveal themselves in therapy.
Laura has extensive experience working with forensic clients, including treatment, assessments, and training of support workers and clinicians. Laura sees the person, not the behaviour, and asserts that all people have the capacity to grow and learn new ways of navigating their world. Laura also works alongside clients with a range of disabilities. Utilising creativity, innovation, and collaboration, Laura enables individuals to develop a stronger and happier sense of self.
Laura particularly enjoys working with adolescents and young adults while they traverse this pivotal and transformative time in their lives. Laura is passionate about helping young people to discover who they are and what matters to them, to learn effective ways of managing stress and self-doubt, and to identify their strengths. Laura emphasises the need for young people and their parents to create a shared understanding, which enhances their wellbeing and relationships.
Laura draws upon a range of evidence-based therapies including Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness-Based approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical-Behavioural Therapy, and Schema Therapy, and is flexible in tailoring the intervention to the needs of the individual.
